George John Raven
|
|
|
George J Raven and his wife, Mary Leverett Raven moved their family from the
Austin, Texas
area (Round Rock) to the Bridgeport Area in 1910. Their family included two daughters and four sons, Vada, Della, Oscar, Fernando, Roy and George Alton. A photo of the Raven Family may be seen by clicking on the RAVEN FAMILY.

The Ravens settled on a farm just south of
Bridgeport
. The location can be seen on the map to your left. The family raised cotton, corn, potatoes and other local crops. They also raised a few cows and hogs.

| In 1917, the Raven family moved to a home place close to downtown
Bridgeport
. The address was later designated as 1100
Stevens Street
. George and Mary lived in this location until their deaths in the early 1950’s. |
|

Mr. Raven worked for the Bridgeport Telephone Company in its early days in
Bridgeport
. A photo of the telephone crew is shown by the photo on your left. The crew included his son, Oscar and daughter, Della. In later years Mr. Raven worked for the Shawn Feed Store. Mary Raven was a house wife and devoted mother.
George died in November of 1950 and Mary died in February of 1952. Both are buried in the
Old
Town
Cemetery
located on the west side of
Bridgeport
. Relatives of George and Mary still live in Bridgeport.
